There’s an Elephant in the Room
There’s an Elephant in the Room
There’s an elephant in the room
And he’s big and he’s mean and he’s hungry.
He feeds off poisonous words hurled across empty spaces by the angry.
Vitriol sustains him, grudges held before bed,
This elephant is filling the room, he’s receiving his daily bread.
There’s an elephant in the room
He’s an opportunistic character of means
He draws people in and warms them before a fractious fire, it seems.
Drunk on power and pulsing negative energy, he stamps on feelings and already frayed nerves
This elephant is gaining strength that the angry silence preserves.
There’s an elephant in the room
And he’s making an awful mess
As the debris from the fallout has caused much pain and distress.
This elephant is growing bolder as a stubborn silence descends
Is this the pride before the fall, as each combatant his stance defends?
There’s an elephant in the room
And he’s taking up too much space
Pushing loved ones further apart until their steps they cannot retrace.
Broken fences and fragile egos, emotions running high.
This elephant is destroying things and time is ticking by.
There’s an elephant in the room
He’s got sores and he’s in pain.
Vicious words and dagger looks like barbed wire have cut deep into the vein
Of a family divided by jealousy, spite and envy
Even for this mighty beast, the burden of this feud has grown heavy.
There’s an elephant in the room
And he’s buckling under the weight
Mend the fences, bury the hatchets before it’s all too late
The years have passed and the sun is setting and soon regrets will rise
For anger left unresolved will abruptly end upon another’s demise.
