Penelope’s English Experience by Kate Douglas Wiggin

Penelope’s English Experience by Kate Douglas Wiggin

penelpes-english-experiences This book is a gem – a forgotten classic from the early 1900’s with beautifully detailed illustrations.

Penelope Hamilton is a genteelly poor American lady who has traveled to England with her two friends:  Francesca and Salemina.  The book is written as a series of short articles recording the humorous encounters of the three ladies with everyday English life – they don’t understand the currency, they don’t always get the English humour and Penelope, in particular, is terrified of the English servants.

If you’re looking for something light to read about these American women committing one social faux pas after another in turn-of-the-century London and surrounding countryside, then give this book a go.  It makes for an easy and enjoyable read.

I give this book TWO COFFEE CUPS ☕☕!
